Christian Co-Housing

Orange County Community Builders (OCCB) is a group of Christian families that have decided to live out our church life within the community or what we call ACTS living, rather than just ‘do church’ as we visit the church building a couple times a week . It is a different approach to Christian co-housing than some groups who develop a separate area to live in. Our Christian living communities are with regular neighborhoods emphasizing community Christian fellowship not isolationism.

ACTS Living

The early church, as recorded in Acts, came together as a body, worshiping God and available for each other as needs arose. In today’s society we have become caught up with “doing church.” We visit the church building a couple times a week and then live our lonely lives without much community christian fellowship out in the world where society teaches that we don’t need anyone but ourselves. We, the OCCB, have a desire to build strong Christian living communities, as in the days of Acts, living in close proximity to each other in a Christian co-housing environment within our community.

Acts living accomplishes two things. Firstly, we are able to help each other out with practical life (ie childcare, building projects and other day to day activities) and more importantly, spiritual life through encouragement and accountability as we are able to see Christ in our brothers and sisters around us. Secondly, because we live within a community with unbelievers they are able to see Christ in our living.

Christian Living Communities

Our desire is to “build community” by inviting families to join us in our christian living communities, leaving the current fad of living off by yourself with acres between you and your neighbor and live within walking distance of each other. This allows the “Community” to be much more freely involved in each other’s lives. Eating a couple meals a week together, doing activities together, being easily available to each other as members of the body of Christ are just some of the benefits we enjoy. We will have a greater impact for Christ as the neighbors see what we are by how we live. (“They will know we are Christians by our love!”)
